On the brink...

Of completion! Really just giving a nice update on the videos I have in progress at this time:

-In the process of rendering Episode 11, pretty proud of this one, for this series in the eyes of it's creator has it's less-shitty decent points, Episode 6 was the first one I thought "mmm...okay", Episode 9.5 was a real "that was...okay?!" and I feel 11 is one of those episodes. Don't get me wrong, they're all really crappy but...y'know...watch them anyway!

-Silent Hill: Despoiled Heart - Episode One, it's geting close folks! The filming I'd say is at around 80% thought sound editing takes excruciatingly long. But I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't love it.

-TF2 Replay montage on the way, got some pretty funny moments from my TF2 playing time to share.

-I recorded my first game of Killing Floor which with abit of editing will show you just how absurdly brilliant and fun this game is.

Oh yeah, I got a new mobile phone, Killing Floor, Silent Hill 4 and Portal 2 this birthday just past. Decent scopp if ya ask me.

Magnum Opus

With all the free time off college I have over easter (two frikkin' weeks!) I've found myself returning to the multitude of neglected projects I have scattered around my dusty bedroom. Cheif among these long loved yet long unfulfilled projects was a bit of fan prose I started around mid-2008. I used to the collect Warhammer 40k (before the lack of money and GW's "evil-corporation" syndrome got the better of me) and I used to collect the Imperial Guard. One of the greatest things I loved about the ol' IG was they were an army rich with flavour (especially post-Guants Ghosts). Myself and many fellow IG players on the IGMB liked to compare GW's army set-up to the Shephard family from Silent Hill: Homecoming. The Space Marines were Josh, Dark Eldar were Alex with (in order ascending from Alex) Witch Hunters, Deamonhunters, Necrons, Eldar, Tyranids, Imperial Guard, Orks and Chaos Space Marines inbetween. SMurfs were the army that GW spolied with toys, attention and theme-park outings. Most of all, only a few sub-factions therein really seemed to stand apart (notably Space Wolves and Black Templars).

The Imperial Guard, being arguably the only "human" faction had endless variation on what you could do with them thematically and still keep it fluff friendly. With this, back in the dark days of 4th edition I created my army (at the time a complete rip-off of Guants Ghosts) the Monian 37th, a stealthing commando army I lost every game with. But even after my departure from the actual hobby, I have continued to develop their character and backstory. Even with the game itself being being flayed to peices by idiot codex writers and pointless codex releases, I still love the flexibility and depth of the the Warhammer 40k universe.

So now we return from that small tangent to this prose project I started September 2008 about my Monian 37th regiment. Writing of it slowed down around September 2009 and until now, any efforts to work on it by myself have been a real occassion. With work picking up now I've decided to start redrafting the earlier sections and modify the plot to be alot more structured and thought out. The initial run I just threw plot points in all over the court and hoped they'd eventually reach some sort of cohesion. Now I'm alot firmer in where I want the story to go and feel passionate enough to give my magnum opus the love and attention it deserves. Watch this space.

You can see the original IGMB thread for the initial run of the story here.

Two more items, one, a new episode of The Citizens Mind (sort of):

This is really just techdemo/writing excercise. See the description and all will be explained.

Finally, to sign off, what I'm listening to at the time of writing (horraynobodycares!!!):

Check this out!

So recently I discovered via the Silent Hill Community forum I recently signed up to a really great project called Silent Hill: Rebirth. It's a fangame currently being created by one JAGTxelUM. Now I'm sure you're thinking "Pffft! It'll never get off the ground". But looking at the screens and amount of support it's gotten (he/she's got someone composing a unique and awesome soundtrack!) and it's been in development since 2008. I recently started pitching in as a concept artist. Go check it out and I'm sure more creative support would be very appreciated, failing that, just drop a hi and some supportive words!

On that note, I'm gonna get Silent Hill 4: The Room when I can. I'm sure many G + T comics shall arise as it did with 2 + 3 (next comic's gonna be from L4D2).

Oh, on that subject:

Notes:
Another real life event from my first playthrough of the game (yes, they were wearing olympic jumpsuits). If you do not understand, watch this video (skip to 3:20).

WHAT HAS BEEN SEEN CANNOT BE UNSEEN!!!

Stand and be amused!

And our last news item, I'm addicted to this tune:

Pre-screening

Now, I've been banging on about Silent Hill: Despoiled Heart right? Well, for the few-but-awsome people who follow my blog I thought I'd show you another preview of episode 1, only available here folks:

Keep in mind, I rendered this about a month ago to check if source recorder files worked with Sony Vegas. So you'll see one clip is blacked out and there have been edits to the cuts and sound since this was rendered. So please be aware, this is a WIP version.

P.S: Still need voice actors!!!

Tuesday 29 March 2011

Late post is late

You'd think by now I'd be up to speed with these blog entries. Anyway, Episode 9 is live and loaded, with a snazzy cinematic intro too:

Watch and be amused.

Watch to the end for a "cool" announcement thing.

Plus, I've been playing Hitman: Blood Money again. That game is so frikkin boss, one of the best PS2 game's made and Hitman 5's been announced!!! *Is super happy*

On a completely related note...
VOICE ACTORS! WHY U NO COME!!!

Ahem...that is all.

Friday 18 March 2011

Preview-aview-aview-(aview!)

So yeah, now that I'd properly started on Silent Hill: Despoiled Heart I thought I'd post some stills (and give people a reason to follow the blog XD). All these from the first minute of the first episode.

Also I'm still looking for voice actors, if you'll look to your right, there's a shiney link that'll take you to the blog post containing all the information on voice acting for the project.

Thank you for your time.

Remastered (pffft)

Episode 1 remastered of The Citizens Mind is live! By remastered I mean, decent aspect ratio, slightly better good joke to bad joke ratio and brand new "I can actually see sh*t!" video quality.

Plus, the finale of Being Human was epic! Loved it. I gleefully expressed my love of the show in an earlier entry. The finale did blatantly set them up for a fourth series, which is certainly nothing to complain about even if Mitchell won't be there to grace the show in a storm of badassery.

Go forth and discuss!!!

New Project

And thus, I announce another upcoming project. Alongside my Citizens Mind series, I shall be making a Silent Hill fan-machinima, Silent Hill: Despoiled Heart. I started out making music videos which I liked, then I obviously started my mind series (I'll get round to that later in this blog entry) but I've always wanted to do a proper, narrative machinima project. Ages ago I had a script and a vision for a series that started out called "DAWN" then changed to "Dilucolo" set in the Half Life 2 universe. I however lacked the motivation and proper planning to go through with it. But now, with abit more experience and something better than Windows Movie Maker, I feel I'm ready to crack at it, especially as I've gradually become a Silent Hill fan. This project will run alongside The Citizens Mind so don't worry tiny audience!

But, what I do lack is voice actors however. There aren't many characters as Silent Hill is a series which works best when you only have several well developed characters, Christophe Gans. So I'm now officially taking in auditions. Bellow are listed the types of voice roles available, if you want to audition for one or more of them, send me at least 3 lines in several moods (happiness, surprise, anger, ect). You will only be picked for one role unless I don't get enough actors to fill all the roles. Sent them to me at TheUltimateGentleman@gmail.com. If you're picked I will keep you in my contacts and email you if I need lines. Prepare for long periods of silence from me, my life contains stuff other than filming of course.

You obviously need to have a decent quality, working microphone, a means by which to record your voice and a voice that has actually broken thank you.

Characters:

-Woman, mid 30s to early 40s, considers herself quite elegant and feels she has "refined tastes" (think Blanche from Streetcar Named Desire)
-Young man, early 20s, slight nervous stutter
-Young woman, mid 20s, normal mostly but can get hot tempered, can get quite manic
-Woman, late 20s to early 30s, compassionate and civil person
-NEW ROLE: Male, late teens - early 20's, mainly minor role, preferably with a british accent (as in, any area of the British Isles, this includes gordie, scouse, scottish, ect)

I'm already voicing another character and I'm using my regular accent. I'll try not to discriminate on accent but it would be nonsensicle to have a cast of characters from several continents in a small town in New England.

As for The Citizens Mind, before episode 9 comes round I'm remaking episodes 1-3 as, quite honestly they are awful. But afterwards, the series will continue!

And on that note; me, JaSoR122 (Declans Mind), SwedenSpeedway (Jimmys Mind) and Jala1250 (Mind of a Marine) are going to be holding a Q & A over skype. So ask us stuff at LesserMinds@yahoo.com!

Now if you could close blog entries with music scores, mine would undoubtedly be this:

EDIT - 19/4

As you'll see above, after recent edits to the story one of the characrters has been written out. Apologies to anyone who was planning to audition for the role but over the course of writing in terms of the story the character has been made redundant.

Episode Ate Nine!

Not copy + pasted from my DA journal.

Episode 8 of The Citizens Mind is now live!

Disclaimer: Anything resembling a decent entertainment product is entirely coincidential.

Episode 9 won't be for a while as:
a) I'll be going back to remake the first 2 or 3 episodes of the series
b) I'm currently planning and writing a possible machinima idea which if born to the light of day will be produced alongside The Citizens Mind

Like I Promised

Double meaning...oh my god! Double meaning!

First off, there two webcomics I thought I'd try vand spread the word of. Firstly, a daily updated Silent Hill fancomic called "Silent Hill: Promise" (see what I did?!). Created by Greer-The-Raven on DeviantArt, the audience has a great deal of input whereby they leave commnents to suggest the characters next course of action. If you ever wanted a worthy sequel to Silent Hill 2, this is as close as it gets! Go read it fo'!
http://greer-the-raven.deviantart.com/

Plus there's Frontier: 2170 by fellow blogger and IGMB regular Julian Sharps. Looks great and I will get round to reading it!
http://frontier2170.blogspot.com/

Last but certainly not least, episode 7 of The Citizens Mind is now locked and uploaded. I'm not doing any more episodes over 10 minutes, my poor, lousy proccessor just can't take it.

I love the BBC

No seriously. Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes both were the absolute bomb. Series 3 of Being Human is simply amazing!

Watch it now!

The BBC, NHS. As much as you may have to say against them, the indomitable nature of publically funded organisations is undeniable. The BBC being publically funded means less tatty, cheap shows made simply to get your ratings and more high quality viewing actually meant to entertain and inform.

I just hope to god ITV never gets Doctor Who.

Episode 7 has been rendered and Episode 8 filmed. Expect the former to be up in the next week.

Peices out amigos!

Moar game updates

Well, even though I know few people will actually read this despite having flagged my blog on my youtube (godamnit man! You have 20 subscribers, get real!) I feel like I should give an update post. Progress on Episode 7 was halted earlier this week as I felt (and still feel to some extent) like a heavy headed, sore throat-ed, snot factory with a hacking cough. This obviously had a less-than-desirable effect on my voice. But lo and behold, I have continued and I'll most certainly get the next episode uploaded within the next two weeks.

Finished Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Still a great game, even if there's alot of build-up to a very disappointing climax.
Silent Hill 2 and 3 are indeed fantastic examples of the horror genre at it's best and most sophisticated. I can't play sustained sessions of the game and find myself playing 20 - 30 minutes everyday, well...20 - 30 nerve shredding minutes. I'm such a wuss. I'd summarise the differences between the two games as thus, Silent Hill 2 has the best cast, storyline and atmopshere in any game. This is just my opinion but Silent Hill 3 actually scares me more (I played about an hour of it and haven't touched the game in 3 weeks) whereas I've clocked up 4 hours 30 minutes on Silent Hill 2. I guess it's because Silent Hill 3 seems more claustrophobic in the way that there's not so much of the open air outdoor sections. Plus I think the horror is of the more shocking variety of "under your skin" scares. Many fans may disagree with me on that but that's my opinion.

I got Mercenaries to work but it can be rather...tempermental.

Delay

The production of Episode 7 of The Citizens Mind is currently on hold on account of an affliction of my chest and throat. Not fun.

Wednesday 12 January 2011

A Fine Line

Guess what! Episode 6 decided to actually upload! *is happy*
It only took 9 seperate attempts...

Be entertained!!!

In other news, those games I got off amazon arrived in the last week! *more happy!*
Here's my initial assessments:
-Metro 2033: Extremely atmospheric, beautiful environments, the feeling of claustrophobia and fear in the tunnels of Moscow is unreal. The amount of detail in the environments almost makes my gaming rig rapture on itself. Only downside being that those aren't real russian accents...

-Fallout New Vegas: Excellent! Excellent! Loved Fallout 3, am engaged to New Vegas! Though it may bear resemblence to Fallout 3 in gameplay, the atmosphere and mood of the setting I'm loving, plus the mind-feck nature of some of the random encounters are just friggin' epic! I love the connections it makes with the original fallout series as well. I play on hardcore mode, because vanilla New Vegas iz for tiny baby man!

-Silent Hill 3: Scares the living s**t out of me, I tend to play it in 20 minute to half hour chunks every day or so to gather my composure. Already a fantastic survival horror game in my book. Every bit as good as it's cult following would tell you!

-Silent Hill 2: Haven't played it yet. Hoping to get to that tonight.

-Mercenaries Playground of Destruction: One of my favorite ever PS2 titles and was the one I was most looking forward to playing...and my PS2 won't read the fecking disk!!!

-Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: I remember this game fondly. Definately the high point in the series in my opinion. My favorite soundtrack in the series and I felt it expanded on the splinter cell formula in all the right ways in terms of graphics and gameplay. After having played Double Agent and Pandora Tommorrow to the brink of boredom over the last year, Chaos Theory feels every bit as refreshing as the first time I played it.

That is all gentlemen.

Sunburn

Alright! Back in the creative, metaphorical music-video-making saddle!

It took me several weeks to do this as I only have access to a decent gaming computer about 2 or 3 times a week. That includes faceposing and finding the appropriate addons (and getting to grips with Henrys Animation Tool, probably one of the best Garrys Mod machinima tools ever created). I've been wanting to do a Muse music video for a while as they're my favorite band ever (if you've seen my DeviantArt profile this will already be apparent). So I thought, what better way to get creating machinima again.

Also, yesterday I went on Amazon and am now eagerly awaiting the delivery of:
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 3
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Metro 2033
Fallout New Vegas
I got nostalgic over Christmas so bought a truckload of PS2 games as I'm getting tired of playing Double Agent, Hitman and Black over and over and over and over and over...

Godamnit Royal Mail, go faster!
